Welcome to St Peter's

Worship at Peter's

St Peter's values the rich tradition of our Anglican heritage. Services are based on A New Zealand Prayer Book, or the older Book of Common Prayer (BCP). Evening Taizé Services were introduced in 2021 and these have become a popular form of worship for those seeking a quiet and contemplative form of prayer.

St Peter's also offers options for "virtual worship": a Zoom Service which takes place most Sunday mornings at 10:00am, and St Peter's Online, which is a collection of resources suitable for individual or home-based worship or to allow those unable to attend in-person services regularly to maintain continuity with the St Peter's community.

Sunday Services

8:00am: Holy Communion

A service of Holy Communion taken from the Book of Common Prayer. This is a quiet service, normally without hymns.

10:00am: Eucharist

Eucharistic liturgies are used in rotation from A New Zealand Prayer Book to ensure a richness and variety in worship. Music is important in this service and we are fortunate to have a team of competent and dedicated organists to ensure its enduring quality. A small but dedicated choir enhances the liturgy once and month and larger choirs feature at significant times during the Liturgical Year, especially Christmas, Easter and our Patronal Festival. There is a children's programme during term time and children also have their own special roles within the service.

Sometimes the Eucharist is replaced by special services - for example our annual and very popular St Francis Animal Blessing Service where people are invited to bring their pets to be blessed. These are currently advertised on our Facebook page under Events or on our public noticeboard in front of our church.

5:00pm: Taizé Service

Fourth Sunday of the Month - February though November

Over about 45 minutes a pattern of simple chants (songs from the Taizé community) accompanied by live musicians, readings, and corporate prayers will provide the container for times of quiet contemplation and personal prayer.
